BIO

My name is Peggy Deering. I presently teach Title I at Glen Lake Elementary School. My teaching experience has encompassed a wide range of ages and settings.

I graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in Art Education. Initially, I worked at Central Elementary School in Traverse City. I developed and taught Art for the special education classes. I taught Art at several summer camps, including Interlochen Music Camp.

I was blessed with three wonderful sons. While starting a family, I attended CMU and received a ZA (Early Childhood endorsement). I worked at a cooperative preschool in my local community for four years and developed a preschool/ childcare center in a neighboring town for three years.
I continued my education at CMU and graduated with an Elementary Education Degree. I taught Pre-K, Kdg. and first grade at St. Mary’s in Lake Leelanau for four years.

I became very interested in Reading and Learning Disabilities. Grand Traverse Dyslexia Association trained and hired me as a private tutor for seven years. I attended Grand Valley State University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Special Education. I taught Special Education at Northport High School for one year and at Glen Lake Elementary for eight years. I am presently teaching Title I which lends itself to a culmination of all of my training and education.

I enjoy the variety and the challenge of teaching. A strong teacher can offer encouragement, insight and the correct tools for learning. I appreciate watching the growth of students as they work towards their potential.

In my free time I enjoy outdoor sports such as cross country skiing, hiking, biking and kayaking in beautiful northern Michigan.
