BIO

My name is Sarah Shutler and this is my tenth year teaching at Glen Lake. Prior to teaching fourth grade I spent a year as an assistant teacher in preschool and a year in second grade. I received my elementary teaching degree from Grand Valley State University and have a Master's Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy through Walden University. Along with teaching, I also serve as a member of the technology committee at Glen Lake.

My husband Dave and I live in Traverse City with our 4 year old son, Kellen and a cat named Chauncey. Kellen will begin his schooling as a little Laker this year in the preschool. We are excited to have him at Glen Lake! When I’m not teaching I enjoy swimming, skiing, reading, taking walks, music, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be teacher. I absolutely love the opportunity to spend time with children seeing them grow and learn. I take my role as an educator seriously and know my job is to do all that I can to help every single child achieve success both inside of the classroom and out. I hope to encourage a classroom environment where children are eager to learn, feel safe to take risks and ask questions, are kind to one another, and learning is continuous throughout the day.
