Year Hired at GLCS: 2014
Mr Morehead's involvement with the Glen Lake educational community began in 2014. Since then, his focus has been middle and high school language and cultural learning, along with the integration of STEM concepts into the secondary language curriculum. He is a Glen Lake Teacher Tech leader and also coordinate Glen Lake's cultural exchange program with our partner school, the Anne Frank Gesamtschule in Havixbeck, Germany. After school, he coaches the high school FIRST FRC Robotics Team 5562 and Middle School Track.
His public school experience includes leading the English as a Second Language Department and teaching German at a Southwest Detroit high school, teaching summer school ESL and English remediation in Detroit and Flint, and also working as a paraprofessional for special education in Palisade, Colorado.
At Michigan State University, he began as a Biosystems Engineering major but quickly realized my deep interest in language, linguistics, societies and culture. This change in direction led him to study abroad in Mayen, Germany in 2003 and, eventually, to working as an English teacher in Koblenz, Germany for two years. In 2013, he had the pleasure of returning to Koblenz to co-lead an experience-based summer program for English and German learners.
Most recently, he traveled with the Goethe Institut to the Europäische Akademie in Saarland, along with Glen Lake Physics and Chemistry teacher Shannon Fisher, where we developed curriculum materials that tie together STEM and German learning.
Outside of school, some of his favorite activities are cycling, running, hiking and skiing. He also enjoys working on his motorcycle and learning to cook new things. International travel and exploring Northern Michigan are also high on his list. So far, he have visited Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Costa Rica, Canada and Peru.
