Year Hired at GLCS: 2014

Since Mr. Morehead joined the Glen Lake educational community in 2014, his focus has been middle and high school language and intercultural learning, along with the integration of STEM concepts into the secondary curriculum. He is a Glen Lake Teacher Tech leader and also coordinates Glen Lake's cultural exchange program with our partner school, the Anne Frank Gesamtschule in Havixbeck, Germany. After school, he coaches High School and Middle School Robotics and Middle School Track.

His professional experiences have included teaching English in Germany's Rhineland, leading the English as a Second Language Department and teaching German in Southwest Detroit, summer school ESL and English remediation in Detroit and Flint, and also working as a paraprofessional for special education in Palisade, Colorado.

At Michigan State University, he began as a Biosystems Engineering major but eventually realized a deeper interest in language, linguistics, societies and culture. This change in direction led him to study abroad in Mayen, Germany in 2003 and, eventually, to working as an English teacher in Koblenz, Germany for two years. In 2013, he had the pleasure of returning to Koblenz to co-lead an experience-based summer program for English and German learners.

Most recently, he traveled with the Goethe Institut to the Europäische Akademie in Saarland, along with Glen Lake Physics and Chemistry teacher Shannon Fisher, where they developed curriculum materials that tie together STEM and German learning.

Outside of school, some of his favorite activities are cycling, running, hiking and skiing. He also enjoys working on his motorcycle and learning new recipes in the kitchen. International travel and exploring Northern Michigan are also high on his list. So far, he have visited Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Costa Rica, Canada and Peru.
