Following guidelines from the Michigan Department of Education and the National School Lunch Program, and in order to ensure fiscally responsible business practices, the Glen Lake Community School District will no longer allow students to accumulate lunch charges. If a student forgets to bring lunch money and charges a lunch, the student is expected to pay the charge the next school day.

***MEAL CHARGE PROCEDURES FOR 2017-18***

Students in grades 4-12 have a three lunch charge limit (approximately $10.00). After this limit has been reached the student will be offered an alternate meal at no charge, either a PB&J or cheese sandwich and a juice. We will never turn away students from having a meal. Parents/Guardians may send a lunch with their child to prevent further charges to their child’s account until the full payment of charges is received.

If a student in grades PreK-3 has a negative account balance, they will continue to receive
the meal that is on the menu, but be subject to all other items in this policy. After a child’s account has reached a three meal balance the parents will be notified of a charge balance and be encouraged to fill out a Free and Reduced Lunch Application.

Negative balance notes are sent home with students (PreK-6) weekly, and low/negative lunch balance emails are sent out for all grades.  If you receive an email or note and feel there is a mistake, please call Jackie Cobb at (231) 334-3061 ext. 503 and I will be happy to try to resolve the issue.

All lunch balances may be paid in the cafeteria, through your child’s classroom, or by payment into a child’s account through use of sendmoneytoschool.com.

Please reference Board Policy 8520 for more information.

WE ENCOURAGE ALL FAMILIES TO FILL OUT THE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION.
