Your School Lunch
Welcome back, Laker Families! The entire staff from the 2017-18 school year will be returning to serve our students and staff, and we are looking forward to a new year of preparing wholesome, delicious food using some new flavor profiles as well as many of the favorites from previous years. Along with new recipes, we will continue to prepare as much as we can from scratch and continue to focus on utilizing locally grown or raised food. In adherence to the USDA guidelines, we will be offering a diverse selection of dark green and red/orange vegetables, seasonal fresh fruits, lean proteins and whole grain-rich foods to fuel your student throughout the school day.
We will continue our relationships with local farmers and food hubs to bring students the most fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables from our area. Our grant application for the 2019 Purchase of Locally Grown Fruits, Vegetables and Legumes program has been submitted to the Michigan Department of Education, and we are confident that our program will be awarded this variation of the grant for the seventh consecutive year. We remain members of Cultivate Michigan, and our kitchen is excited to be a part of an organization whose goal is for schools and other institutions to purchase 20% Michigan food by the year 2020. We are also now a "Fuel Up To Play 60" school, and will be using their "Playbook" to encourage healthy eating and perhaps win some prizes!
