2018/2019 Teacher Contract Negotiations Update 11/29/2019

On November 15, 2018, the Glen Lake Community Schools’ Board of Education offered the Glen Lake Federation of Teachers a three-year package proposal that, when combined with available merit pay incentives, provided the 52 teachers of the GLFT with over Eight Hundred Thousand Dollars ($800,000.00) in additional wages, benefits, and financial incentives; an average increase of over Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000) per teacher.  After nearly eleven months of negotiations, the Board was delighted when the GLFT’s representative notified the Board that the proposal was acceptable to the GLFT bargaining team, that he would bring the proposal to a vote as soon as possible, and that he would do everything in his power to shepherd the Tentative Agreement to fruition.

The Board is disheartened to report that the GLFT rejected the Tentative Agreement, which would have resulted in an average increase of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) per teacher.  The Board was informed that the GLFT rejected the Tentative Agreement because the teachers demanded additional wage increases beyond those accepted by the GLFT bargaining team on November 15, 2018.  The Board is disappointed that the GLFT rejected the considerable financial package contained within the Tentative Agreement. The Board will seek the intervention of a State mediator to assist in identifying an acceptable solution to the GLFT’s refusal to ratify the Tentative Agreement.  The Board will provide further updates as they become available.
