Hi! My name is Sarah Shutler and I teach 4th grade. My family and I are proud to be members of the Glen Lake school community. My son, Kellen is a Laker and my husband works at a school nearby. We have one pet, a grumpy cat named Chauncey. I love spending time outdoors, swimming, enjoying our amazing beaches, boating, hiking, biking, skiing and doing anything with my family. I also really enjoy traveling, reading, baking, music, being creative, and time spent with friends. Some of my closest friends are the amazing people I work with each day here at Glen Lake!
As the child of an educator, I grew up staying after school with my mom and playing school with my brothers. I knew from a young age that I wanted to work with children and spent my high school and college years working jobs such as a camp counselor, tutor, and ski instructor. Upon graduating from Glen Lake, I headed to Michigan State and then Grand Valley to get my elementary teaching degree. I later also got my Master’s in elementary reading and literacy. I was blessed to be hired at Glen Lake in 2006. I spent a year teaching our littlest Lakers in preschool, followed by a year teaching second grade, before firmly planting myself in the world of fourth graders. I love teaching fourth grade! They are eager learners and I love seeing them grow in independence and social awareness, develop their interests, tackle challenges, and blossom as human beings. Plus, fourth graders are FUNNY! They make me laugh daily and I’m thankful for a job that makes me smile each day. I fully believe that our children will change the world and I am grateful that I get a chance to play a small part in the big picture. I cherish being able to build lasting relationships and connections with our Laker students and families.
