Your School Lunch

Hello Laker Families,

Great News!  Michigan has become the 7th State to adopt Universal Free Meals for students.  Starting the 23-24 school year, all students can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost when school is in session.  Parents will save over $800.00 per student this year.

In order to make this happen, we need your help with 2 requirements.

  1. Students need to take a complete meal in order to qualify as free.

    1. Breakfast requires a Grain, Fruit, and Milk.

    2. Lunch requires at least 3 of the following: Grain, Protein, Fruit or Juice, Vegetable, and Milk. One serving of a fruit or vegetable is required.

While we offer more options, if the required components of the meal are missing, we cannot count it as a free meal and your child's account will be charged accordingly.

  1.  Parents, we need your help. While everyone is approved for free reimbursable meals, we still need a parent/guardian to fill out a Free/Reduced Meal Application despite income level. In Michigan, free and reduced-price meals eligibility data is used to determine how much state education funding will be allocated to each school district, in addition to determining students’ eligibility for P-EBT benefits.

The most efficient and secure way to apply is online at https://glenlake.familyportal.cloud/. A paper application along with information on filling out the application is available here. If you have any questions regarding the Free and Reduced Meal Application or Program, you can contact Rebecca Chavalia (231)334-3061 ext.533.  More info will follow as the Michigan Department of Education continues to update us on the details.

Once again, we will have snacks and beverages for sale at the LaFresca window during Middle School and High School lunch times and again after school. Students will need to have funds in their MealMagic account in order to purchase these items. While parents can send cash or checks with their students, we highly recommend using https://glenlake.familyportal.cloud/. Your student’s school ID is required for new accounts. Please call your child(ren)’s office to obtain this number.

Glen Lake has traditionally pushed beyond the standard for school lunches so it is our goal to help students explore new foods and promote healthy choices. If your child has specific dietary needs we will gladly accommodate them. A form needs to be filled out by a doctor and on file with the school nurse before the dietary changes can be made.
